What good brand photos actually do for your business
When Jess opened Movere Pilates Studio in Rutherglen, she had created something really special. A beautiful space with a real sense of community — the kind of place people walk into and immediately feel at home.
But she didn't have any visuals that showed people that.
I first photographed Jess a few years ago for another business so I was delighted to hear from her in 2024 when she first opened Movere and asked me to capture it — and now we’ve shot together four times. I recently asked Jess to share her experience with me and her words mean the world as they’re exactly what I hope every client feels.
THE DECISION TO BOOK
I know a photoshoot can feel like a nerve wracking experience — and it’s easy for it to fall to the bottom of the to do list because you’re not excited about having your photo taken. I’d love you to know that every single person I work with feels like this. But that fear stops you from being able to show the world what you’ve created and it means you’re not visible to the people you can best serve.
"I wanted imagery that truly reflected the feel of my studio and the experience my clients have when they walk through the doors. It was important to me to capture not just the space, but the connection, the movement, and the atmosphere we've built."
That's what professional brand photography is actually for. Not just to show what you do, but to show what it feels like to be there — to communicate the thing that's hard to put into words.
WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE SHOOT
Planning a photoshoot — deciding location, what to wear, shotlist, run sheet — can feel like a mammoth task. Jess worried about how it would all come together, too.
"A little [nervous], yes — mainly around how it would all come together and whether everyone would feel comfortable."
This is why my pre-shoot process exists. Before we ever pick up a camera, we have a planning call. We work through your brand, your shot list, your locations and styling. You fill out a detailed planning document. By the time shoot day arrives, every decision has already been made — we're just bringing it to life.
"The planning process was also a standout. The phone call and the document we worked through meant everything was already thought out, so on the day it all flowed smoothly without too much chaos."
Minimising chaos is the goal!
ON SHOOT DAY
The thing I care about most on the day itself is that people feel relaxed. A photographer who makes you feel self-conscious will get self-conscious photos. I'd rather you forget I'm there.
Jess described it this way:
"The entire experience felt so relaxed and easy. You have such a natural way of building rapport with everyone, which immediately puts my clients at ease. It never felt forced or staged — just really authentic."
That’s what your brand photography should be — just you, doing the thing you love, in the space you've created.
WHAT CHANGES AFTER
And the thing that you don’t always realise is that your photos don’t just look nice — they’re working hard to build trust and connection.
"The images have elevated everything — from social media to marketing and overall brand presence. They've helped tell a clearer story of who we are and what we offer, and they genuinely reflect the energy of the studio."
And this one thing Jess said might just be the most important of all:
"I also think they've built trust with potential clients before they even walk in the door."
That's the real value of professional brand photography — it's the trust that forms before someone has ever met you. The decision that gets made based on what they see (or don’t see!) when they land on your website or socials.
IF YOU'VE BEEN PUTTING IT OFF
If you've been thinking about booking a shoot and finding reasons to wait — I'd encourage you to read that last line from Jess again.
Your potential clients are forming opinions about your business right now based on what they can find online. The question is whether those images are telling the story you want told.
